Teen rooms are the bane of mothers everywhere. It’s not even like when they were pre-teens. In those days, if their rooms were in a mess, you could shout at them and get them to clean it up, and, barring that, you could go in and do a good job yourself. Your teens will in turn roll their eyes and scream, that no it wasn’t about to grow legs and walk off on its own, and if it was then wouldn’t that be a great science project. You keep cleaning and they keep putting things back. End of story, and you’re basically right back at square one.

Naturally, one way you could deal with this bomb site is to redecorate it. Teen rooms might be sanctums for them, but even they would like it if you gave their rooms a great makeover.

That doesn’t mean that the room will be any tidier after they have moved back in, but at least you’ll have been able to seen the inside of the room long enough to tide you over for the next couple of years. That is unless you’re thinking of redoing their rooms every year.

But now you come to your next problem. Since teens are famously different with regard to their rooms. You might find that your teen rooms are done out quite differently from that which you had expected and that which you would have done first of all. This is where a comprise should be struck, if your teen wants black walls for his room, then say you want another colour too that will offset the black.

Be prepared to give in a little on your ideas no matter how ridiculous their ideas are to you. After all, they’re only a teen for a while and later on they will look back with horror on what bad taste they had had.

It is your duty as a parent to give them these moments in their lives that they can look back on with mock horror, and ban their kids from doing the same to their own teen rooms.

At times such as these, the electric motor will close down and the combustion engine will take over and start supplying power to the accelerator and electricity to the batteries. When the need for extra power has ceased, the batteries will take over again.

These choices are all taken by the hybrid electric vehicle’s (HEV’s) on board computer system and you will not be aware of much other that a surge of power or a quietening of the propulsion system. This works very well in most scenarios, but some drivers of HEV’s would like to have a manual override for abnormal circumstances, such as an undulating terrain.

All in all, cars with hybrid electric engines work very well at reducing fuel bills but they are still too dear to be much more than a gimmicky toy and a salve to the conscience for the well-to-do.
