Thailand is the most well-liked tourist destination in South-East Asia and has been for decades. This is because the climate alters throughout the year from hot to cool and even cold, if you would like to look for it; Thai food is world-renowned; the range of wildlife is broad as is the flora; the diving is fantastic and the people are friendly and welcoming. Thailand is not known as the Land of Smiles for no reason.
There are also a great deal of festivals, some of which are religious, which means Buddhist, and others are not. Thailand has been Buddhist ever since the country came into being in the Thirteen Century, but the people were Buddhist long before that. Or at least the majority of them were. There were also throw-backs to older religions just as in the West.
In the West Christmas and Easter were moved to conceal pagan festivals, but in Thailand they merely have the old festivals too. One of the biggest festivals is Loy Krathong in November (the first full moon in the twelfth lunar month). Loy Krathong is a charming festival to placate the goddess or water, Ganga, for using and abusing (polluting) her.
These days, people still remember the old meaning of Loy Krathong (‘Floating Boats’), but it has been taken adopted by lovers too. People float symbolic boats out onto the water and ask the goddess to pardon them and to grant a wish. Lovers send their boats out together and numerous people believe that if the boats, krathong, float out side-by-side then they will have a trouble-free year together.
Numerous women don traditional Thai costumes for the evening, especially if they are going out for a meal or to a party. Some men do as well, but not so many.
Also in November is the world-famous Elephant roundup in Surin. The elephant roundup is also well-liked with foreigners and Thais alike. The city of Surin is full on this weekend so if you want to go it is worth booking your hotel with your travel ticket otherwise you might be stranded. Not that it is cold or likely to rain.
Bridge Over the River Kwae week is in November. The bridge is a moving reminder of the horror that prisoners of war from all over the world experienced at the hands of the Japanese overlords at the time. More Thais died than foreigners although Thailand was thought of as ‘friendly’ by the occupying Japanese.
In December it is the King’s birthday and Fathers’ Day on the 5th. The king is very highly esteemed in Thailand and numerous people will light candles in their garden on the roadside to the king in the early evening. This is a very pretty sight, particularly in the villages where street lighting is usually minimal. Constitution Day is on the 10th and is a bank holiday, which normally means a party.
Christmas is feted in the cities by tourists, ex-pats and young Thais although it has no real religious implication outside the Christian churches in the larger cities.
New Year’s Day is huge. There are parties that will last all night, dancing, feasting and fireworks.
Thailand is a great place to come to in November and December and although it is considered high season, I am sure that you will find it cheaper to come on vacation to Thailand – The Land of Smiles – than it is to stay at home in the cold.

If you are going to acquire garden furniture, it is a good idea to buy the best quality that you can afford and if you have the money then hardwood garden furniture is the best. There are many kinds of hardwood, naturally, but one of the most popular types of hardwood, particularly in the UK and northern Europe, is oak. It will endure any kind of weather and if it is taken care of, it will last for a number of decades.
Oaken hardwood garden furniture is not cheap to buy, that is true, but if you take into account the joy that oak furniture will give and the fact that it will last for thirty years if you oil it or varnish it once or twice a year, it is pretty cheap certainly.
In comparison, cheap plastic garden furniture may last two or three years, but then it will need to be replaced. So you can sit on plastic chairs and have to replace them every few years or you can buy expensive oak and enjoy it for the remainder of your life.
Hardwood is heavily sought after, which leads unscrupulous traders to log it illegally. So, if you want to placate your conscience, try to make certain that you buy your hardwood garden furniture from a renewable source.
Furthermore, if you buy from a reputable dealer, you will be given directions on how to maintain it, which will enable you to double or even treble its lifespan.
If your oaken hardwood garden furniture is supplied stained or oiled, you should asked the merchant how you should treat the timber. I think that it is best to buy oak furniture oiled or just stained so that you can make up your own mind how to treat it. Varnished wood has to be varnished again or rubbed down.
If you live in an area where the weather can be extreme in the winter or the summer, you could consider getting covers for your furniture, particularly if you know that you are not going to use it for a couple days.
Sunlight is practically as damaging to dead wood as the cold, which is why we stain, varnish, oil and preserve it. Fortunately, this is not an onerous chore and a treatment once or twice a year will keep your oaken hardwood garden furniture in tip-top condition for numerous years.
There are numerous different types of wood treatment, so ultimately, you should abide by the directions on the tin, but I always like to apply a coat of stain without varnish first and perhaps even a second one to bring out the patterns in the wood’s grain, then I apply oil, say, linseed oil until the timber is completely protected.
However, take note, this approach can go wrong. The wood can only soak up so much oil so do not put on more than it can soak up otherwise you will not be able to sit on your oaken hardwood garden furniture for a long while.

Is your kitchen or dining room table a repository for everything that people can not be bothered to put away? In between meals does it get piled up with the post, books, school bags, hats and shopping simply because people are too idle to put things away?
A beautiful looking table is a delightful sight, whether you prefer a highly polished surface or whether you like to see a tablecloth or a runner. Books, a hat, gloves and keys are definitely not the same.
This kind of clutter is a bad practice because at some time or another, someone has to tidy it away and that someone is usually Mum and that sometime is usually just before she wants to lay the dining table for a meal, just when she does not have the time to do it. Even when the mess is removed from the dining table, it usually only ends up somewhere else where it should not be.
If you can not stop this bad habit by instilling some discipline into the members of your family, maybe you should try another line of attack. Screw two or three hooks per person into a board on the wall of your hall so that people can hang things up as soon as they come in and attach containers to the wall with the names of the family members on them so that they can put small things in them that they need every day like keys.
People can get into the habit of putting their stuff in their own container and hanging up larger things. Additionally, if you find something lying around where it should not be, you can dump it in the right person’s container. This should clear up mess on the dining table practically over night.
The dining table probably also doubles as a desk for homework and work brought home from the office. This is not a problem so long as people clear their things away after them, which they all too often do not do. You can make it easier for people to clear their work things from the dining table by having a cupboard close by just for these items.
Attempt to institute good behavior early on in a child’s life by encouraging it to eat off plates at all times because it catches crumbs and by always placing drinks on mats because it does not leave rings on varnished table tops which only need to be rubbed away later.
Another means to deter family members from leaving items lying around on the table is to place a gorgeous runner or tablecloth on it. Then put a centre piece on the table too. This could be a bowl of fruit or a few photographs. If you use the table for dining, you could do what they do in hotels and lay the table with the cutlery for the next meal as soon as one meal is over. It saves you a job later on as well.

If you are going to take your garden seriously, there are a couple items that you have to do. This first thing to do is work out a plan of how you want your garden to look like. This is easily done using graph paper or the more artistic may choose to draw it. Then you need to landscape your garden according to your plan, although you can modify your plan as you go. After all, you are the boss. Put in any electric cables and water pipes that you may need. Put up your shed and greenhouse, if required then you can start planting and start to choose your garden furniture.
The purpose of this article is to help you choose your garden furniture. There is so much diversity of garden furniture that it can be quite difficult to make up your mind. Do you go for hardwood, softwood, metal or plastic?
Which colour and which style? Some of your choice will be restricted, if you are on a budget, but in truth, over the long term of twenty or thirty years, hardwood is the cheapest option and plastic the most expensive. Over the short term, two to five years, the opposite is the case.
Whether you want armchairs or recliners is really up to you and so outside the scope of this piece, so is the style that you prefer, although I will say that the most successful choice of garden furniture should blend in with the garden rather than stick out like a sore thumb. Plastic tends to look OK on a patio or deck, but rarely goes well with a garden full of pretty plants and bushes, whereas hardwood garden furniture tends to fit in well everywhere. You need to be a little careful with softwood and metal.
In a way, it is a good idea to approach choosing your garden furniture in the your same way that you would choose the furniture for inside your home. It has to blend in with your overall style.
Therefore, you might want to put off buying your garden furniture until you get your first crop of flowers up, unless you can picture it in your mind. The only problem with waiting for Spring is that that is when garden furniture is at its most costly.
Ask yourself what you anticipate doing in the area where you are planning having your furniture. Are you and the family just going to flop there after work and on weekends or are you going to hold more formal garden parties there? If you are going to have guests, it should be big enough for the number you expect and the furniture should be strong enough so that it will not give way under some of the heavier guests. If it is just for the family at least you are dealing with known information: how big they are and how many of them there are.
Another aspect to bear in mind is maintenance. Plastic does not have to be taken care of, but it will perish – become brittle – after a few hot summers and cold winters. You can prolong the life of your plastic garden furniture by keeping it in a shed when not in use. Metal garden furniture might need anti-rust treatment from time to time and if the seat is made of cloth, you should also check for signs of rot, which could lead to someone falling through the chair.
Softwood has to be treated with preservative, paint, varnish or oil quite frequently and you should check for signs of rot or splitting, which can still come about no matter how much you take care of it. Hardwood garden furniture needs to be treated once a year as well, but it is by far the most robust material used for constructing garden furniture.
Plastic and metal furniture come in many colours; softwood can be painted or stained any colour you like and hardwood is available in all shades of brown from light oak to rich dark mahogany, but it should never be painted only oiled and stained, if you want to.
If you select hardwood, it can be a bit hard on the backside after a couple hours, so buy a few cushions that match the colour and style of your garden furniture as well. These can be stored inside when not in use or they will become incredibly grimy and if they get wet it can take days for them to dry, during which time they might begin to rot and smell. Removable cushion covers are a good idea.

If you are thinking of buying a vacation rental property, there are two things that you can ultimately do with it. Some owners of vacation rental property intend to live in it most of the year round themselves and others intend to rent it out for most of the year. There is no doubt that vacation rental property can present an excellent income stream.
However, there is a huge difference between vacation property rental and residential property rental. This has to do with the fact that holiday makers are not inevitably looking for the same amenities in a vacation rental property as they are in a home.
One thing that does affect the desirability of both vacation rental property and residential property is location. However, a good residential property for a young family may need to be close to schools and other amenities and for older people being near a school is more like a hassle.
Similarly with vacation rental property, you have to know your target market. You have to discover the answer to the question: why do people come to this location? And then buy a vacation rental property that matches the highest volume profile.
In this way, you will never be short of tenants and you will be sure of high rents too. For instance, some people might go to the Caribbean island of St. Croix in the Virgin Islands for the diving opportunities it presents while others may want to investigate the tropical rain forests. However, younger travelers might not want to go far from the only largish town on the island, Christiansted, so that they can take part in any nightlife going on.
One thing that everyone requires is security. The person who rents your vacation rental property will want to feel safe. That is secure from falling masonry and rickety stairs and secure from burglars. That means that your property should be well lit both internally and externally and have sturdy doors and locks. Windows should be lockable too.
It is a good idea to provide a kitchen like the one a family would usually expect at home. So, an American kitchen with American style appliances for American families, if they are the people you are trying to attract. Again, you will have to investigate the typical visitors to where you want to buy a vacation rental property. A younger family may eat in at night, an older one may never eat in at all. The kitchen should be well-equipped, furnishings should be comfortable and recreational gear should be provided too.
A great deal of people like to take their dogs with them, so you might like to consider making the vacation rental property friendly for pet owners. If the furniture is robust, massive oak or something similar, dogs will not be able to damage it easily. Plastered walls without wall covering and tiled floors are also conducive to having animals in the house. This is a definitely growing niche market for vacation rental properties
And last but not least, remember that people like to be able to keep in touch when they are away from their loved ones, so Internet access is a growing essential too. People can VOIP, so a phone is not so imperative these days. If you bear these points in mind, you can have a profitable vacation rental property where you can holiday free too.

Saint Croix is the largest of the US Virgin Islands, which lie 1730 miles east south east of Miami and 93 miles west of Puerto Rico. This sector of the Virgin Islands has belonged to the United States since 1917 when they were purchased from the Danish government for $25m in gold to safeguard American coasts from German U-boat attack.
At the time, it was feared that Germany would subjugate the islands and construct submarine pens there in order to attack American supply shipping, which was essential to the allies in Europe during the First World War.
The US Virgin islands is a group of about 60 largely unpopulated islands, the four biggest of which are called St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John and Water Island. (By the way, ‘Saint’ is pronounced in the English manner). The Islands’ residents, however, have other names for these four which are Twin City, Rock City, Love City and Small City respectively.
Christopher Columbus landed there on November 14th, 1493, but there is evidence of human habitation on the island going back to 5000 BC. In fact, the Arawaks and the Caribs made up the islands’ populace, before the Europeans arrived.
Possession of St Croix and the other Virgin Islands changed a lot over the following centuries, but it became infamous to many people as Santa Cruz, which is its Spanish name. As Santa Cruz, St Croix featured prominently in 17th and 18th century stories of pirates and buccaneers on the Spanish Main.
In fact, after Spain initially took control of the island, it changed hands seven times; having been Spanish, British, French, Maltese, Dutch, Danish and now American. The inhabitants of the US Virgin Islands are now US citizens and carry US passports. They also use the US dollar and US laws.
St Croix was an agricultural powerhouse in the Caribbean until the 1960′s when the local government determined it was time to industrialize. The island is now home to HOVENSA, one of the largest oil refineries in the world.
There is also a large distillery, the Cruzan Rum Distillery, which used to produce rum from sugar cane grown on the island. Sugar cane, or its extract, molasses are now imported from the Dominican Republic to manufacture Southern Comfort and Cruzan Rum. Diageo is planning to build a distillery there too in order to produce Captain Morgan Rum.
Inhabitants of the island call themselves Crucians. However, there is a great deal of debate about what constitutes a ‘real Crucian’. Many say that a Crucian is someone who was born and raised on St Croix, while others claim that descendants of the slaves that the Danes brought over in 16th and 17th Centuries are the only true Crucians.
Many Crucians can trace their ancestry back to Puerto Rico or other Virgin islands as the sugar cane industry attracted a lot of migrant workers in the 1930′s, 40′s and 50′s. There was also an inflow of down-islanders (ie from other Caribbean islands), as the residents say, after the industrialization of St Croix in the US Virgin Islands in the 1960′s and 1970′s as tourism and oil became more central to the economy.

There are lots of destinations for people interested in sailing and if you are tired of the Virgin Islands then try the rest of the Caribbean.
The Caribbean islands are part of an island chain stretching 2,500 miles. Given the enormous distance, it is no surprise that tourists spend weeks out there in order to get pleasure from the splendour that it has to offer.
Just like in the Virgin Islands, there are lots of charter firms you can try for various hobbies. These firms come in different sizes, but perhaps the best is the yacht charter.
When you charter a yacht, apart from the yacht, the other elements and benefits that come with it are meals, separate guest rooms, a galley, toilet and shower.
Since you are the paying guest aboard the boat, you can customize the menu by telling the crew before the voyage what you want to eat. You can help out by buying the provisions yourself, having someone from the crew do it for an additional fee or choose a set menu from one of their pre-composed packages.
Since most of the islands in the Caribbean are small and uninhabited, you are sure to explore places that not many have seen. But if you can’t afford to rent a chartered yacht, don’t worry because you can probably get one that will cost as little as $50 if you are able to book a pre-arranged trip with several other guests to share the cost.
One thing you ought to be prepared for during you sailing vacation is the possibility of a storm. These generally occurs during the months of June to November. If you are not sure that this is the best time, book the trip on another date.
But if you are adamant about going on your dates, there are some online tools you can use to check if the area you will be sailing in has ever been hit by a storm before.
The other option is to plan your itinerary to the Caribbean islands further south because they are less likely to be affected by a storm. These places include the islands of Aruba, Barbados, Bonaire, Curacao, and Turks and Caicos.
If you like the idea of going sailing around the Caribbean there are ample opportunities. You could do far worse than start in St Croix in the US Virgin Islands and travel south or west. If you start in St Croix, which the pirates of old used to call Santa Cruz, you will not need a passpert and can take your pets with you, but you will need more ID if you call into foreign islands.

The tanned appearance is both popular and all the rage more now than at any time for decades; people like the brownish luminosity of their skin as it makes them feel fashionable and self-confident. However, at the same time, sun bathing is less and less prudent because of the rise in the quantity of skin cancer injuries. Therefore, substitutes to it have and still are being developed. Artificial tanning using tanning beds or sunless tanning by artificial means such as body lotions, creams, gels or self tanning spray are generally obtainable.
Even though the most superior way of achieving a tan is the use of a tanning bed or tanning booth, not everybody can afford to buy their own machine or go to a salon four times a month in order to get their tan topped up, so the do-it-yourself ways have become more and more popular.
A self tanning spray is a cosmetic product frequently containing DHA that can be employed at home as a sunless tanning solution. DHA is a chemical that causes a reaction with the skin’s amino acids, which in turn causes the turning of the top layer of skin a brownish colour. The outcome of a self tanning spray lasts for about six or eight days, if you are wise not to take too long in the shower, if you shun using too a harsh soap and if you do not rub yourself too hard with the towel.
Self tanning presents several challenges and so, while it is less expensive than treatment in a commercial tanning salon, it is also more difficult to get a satisfactory result. It is more difficult to achieve an even tan when using a self tanning spray. The coloring solution needs to be atomized in a thin film with great care not to overlap too much. Overlapping leads to darker tan shades on certain body areas.
Therefore, another drawback of the self tanning spray is that you may require another person’s assistance for the process. The back for example is very tricky to spray unless there is someone to assist you. The same difficulty presents itself for the back of the legs, the nape of the neck and the bottom. If you ask a friend to assist you with the tanning, it will make the process a lot simpler.
You must be particularly careful to safeguard your eyes, your lips, ears and other sensitive body parts. It is also possible to stain your nails and palms when using a self tanning spray. You could remove this difficulty by using gloves or wet wipes whenever necessary so as not to allow the tanning agent to dry on the palms or your hands or your nails.
Then, last but not least, do not spray too much fluid on your body, because the consequence may be an unnatural orange glow or a rather uneven tan. Although many people frequently use these cans of self tanning spray in its various forms, there is no question about it that they are a lower quality resolution when compared to the superior, but more highly-priced tanning bed or tanning booth.

It is a well-known fact of life that a lot of individuals like to have a wonderful celebrity tan just as if they had been soaking up the sun on a private beach in Malibu. You would be able to get an all over tan with no clothes or strings to restrict the tanning process on your private beach. But secret beaches do not come cheap, do they? Buying a tanning booth is one the several different methods that you can use to get the all over tan that you want.
These tanning booths are quite similar in design to the tanning booths which are very popular in commercial tanning enterprises. As with tanning beds, there are many brands of tanning booths on the market for both commercial and domestic tanning bed equipment. So, you will have to look into these diverse tanning booth systems meticulously in order to find one that suits you and your budget. There are nevertheless a few notes of concern that you should bear in mind when selecting your tanning booth.
When you are using tanning booths, you will discern that these booths use very high temperature ultra violet bulbs to rapidly bring about the alterations your skin will have to go through in a tanning session in order to become bronzed. Just as when using tanning beds, you will need to use some protective eye glasses when inside the tanning booths. These goggles will shield your eyes from getting hurt by the powerful, but injurious ultra violet rays.
On the other hand, if these ultra violet rays are quite so hazardous, why do people choose to subject themselves to such protracted periods in tanning booths? Well, the response is really quite simple, it is just because of the fact that individuals like to have a striking, bronze coloured skin. Another point is that, since there is so much dreadful news in the papers about the hazards of sun tanning, it is easy to understand why some individuals choose to go the sunless tanning route instead.
Which is where tanning booths, among other products, come into their own. However, having mentioned a few details and hazards, if you are still considering acquiring a sunless tan then you may be interested in reading the benefits of using a tanning booth. The first advantage is that you can get a tan whenever you want. The second advantage is that the tanning booths take up less space than tanning beds as they stand in a vertical attitude.
However, before you go out to buy a tanning booth, it is a first-rate idea if you read what other people have had to say about the items. If you still believe that tanning booths are the solution to your prayers, then there is a wide choice of tanning booths for you to consider.
Once you get your tanning booth installed in a spare room, you will never look back. The ease of use and being able to fit your tanning sessions in no matter what time of the day or night you like is of immeasurable advantage.

Are you thinking of taking a vacation in the near future? How do you normally go? Do you fly there and then sort yourself out or do you take vacation packages? It is clear that vacation packages are simpler and usually cheaper too.
If you go DIY, you will need to book reservations on an airplane or a bus and a hotel and taxis and a car hire company. If you would rather avoid all this, you could book either a vacation package of one of the all inclusive vacation packages.
Although many vacation packages are extremely good, some people refuse to use them. This can be for several reasons, but the most common are out of a of feelings of adventure, independence and snobbishness. In fact, most of the people who do not take vacation packages are younger, single individuals.
Married people with families are the main users of vacation packages and especially all inclusive vacation packages. There is a difference between the two types. All inclusive vacation packages are grand for families with hungry children. You know, the normal kind, who are always saying: ‘Give me a dollar for an ice cream, Dad’ or ‘I’m hungry, Mum!’.
On an all inclusive vacation package, all of these snacks and three main meals a day and all drinks are included in the cost of the holiday – hence, the name, all inclusive vacation package.
However, there is more to it than that. All inclusives also incorporate on site games and amusements and some others as well. For example, a Caribbean all inclusive vacation package might include the use of snorkels and goggles, but it would seldom stretch to the use of scuba gear or wet suits.
Another benefit of the all inclusive holiday resort is that they often cater for families with young children. They may supply child alarms in the chalets and free entertainment for adult holiday makers in the evening and night too. The resort might also provide baby sitters and a free taxi into town.
All inclusive vacation packages are a very different product from normal vacation or rental packages. All inclusives are more geared towards families with young children between, say five and fifteen, because children of this age eat a lot, although it is usually junk food, which typically costs a lot on holiday, but is in fact, cheap to make. The evenings’ entertainment is also on site so that parents can be easily reached if there is a problem.
On the other hand a normal vacation package will usually provide breakfast only, so that you can go out for the day and do what you like.
