Filing one’s tax forms are a necessary chore for many people, but for more people, they are a way of reducing the money that they owe the state. It depends on which country you come from. In some countries, people pay no tax until the end of the tax year, in others, workers pay a fixed rate, say 25%, of everything they earn, but settle up with the state at the end of the tax year.
They settle up by submitting their tax returns, which basically means claiming tax relief for operating costs that they have incurred in the execution of their work. It is the difference between what an employed person earns using the boss’ equipment and a self-employed person earns using their own tools. After all, a boss would claim for every shovel that workers use, so why should a self-employed person have to pay for his own shovel?
The same is true of owner operator truck drivers. So what are the sort of operating costs that an owner operator truck driver can claim for?
First and foremost is the depreciation of the value of the truck itself. The rate at which this is permitted varies from country to country, but in many it is 25% of the value of that truck per year, based on the cost price. You will also be able to deduct 100% of the interest charges on the loan that you took out to buy the truck.
This can get quite complicated if you want to sell the vehicle before it can be called ‘written off’ in the terms of the law. However, whatever you get for the vehicle has to be considered as income after the truck has been written off.
You will have to take advice on this topic because it is very complicated, varying from country to country. The main point is that you are not allowed to deduct the full payments for the truck, only the interest.
Another major fee that drivers can claim back are toll charges. If you have to pay anything to stay on the road, you are allowed to off-set that against your earnings. The same goes for cleaning, washing and maintaining the vehicle, but you must keep all the receipts.
No tax man will believe you without them. Meals and over-night lodgings are also tax-deductible, but again, receipts are an absolute necessity.
Many people reckon that they can claim for clothing, but this is a tricky point. You are only permitted to claim for working clothing that can only be utilized wholly and exclusively for work. Overalls are a good example, as are steel toe-capped boots or wellingtons. A sleeping bag is ambiguous.
Fines or traffic tickets are not deductible, because they were your fault. Likewise lawyers’ fees fighting them – unless you win. However, if you fight and lose, you may incur penalties from the tax office. Sometimes it is easier, and cheaper, to just pay up, unless it endangers your driving license.
Fuel bills are a large part of most drivers’ expenses, so it vital to keep a close eye on those receipts. It is a good idea to pay for fuel with a fuel card because then you have a permanent, re-recoverable record of them.
Mobile phones, sat nav and laptops are necessary to many drivers, but authorities take a particular view on them. Some allow 100% deduction, others allow only 25-50%, because they assert that they can be used for purposes non-essential to carrying out your job. Calls on the cell phone may have to be justified for similar motives.
You may get away with claiming for air-con and even a fridge to keep your food cool or a special ergonomic seat for your back, but do not rely on it.
In general, the allowances for owner operator truck drivers are reasonable, but you cannot condemn the authorities for questioning some of the outrageous claims that some drivers make.

Do you like driving fast? If you are into speed for fun, sport or recreation, perhaps you should have a go at amateur sports car racing. You can charter racing cars by the hour or by the number of laps at most racing tracks. Sports car racing is a sport that is increasing in popularity. Sports car racing has always been a well-liked spectator sport, but not people can take part in it as well.
If you have never raced a sports car before, there are some points that you ought to know about it first, so here are a few guidelines to help you get the most out of your racing event:
At the starting line, a learner should not put the accelerator pedal to the floor, because these cars are tremendously powerful and you can easily lose control of the vehicle if you are unaccustomed to it.
More experienced drivers should use full acceleration without exceeding the maximum engine revolutions per minute, because that could harm the engine; ease off the clutch gradually until it is fully engaged.
You should be close to maximum driving speed on the long straights, but always be very mindful of your steering because it is easy to lose control at high speed where the slightest twitch of the steering wheel has a lot of effect on the direction of the car. Novices should always endeavor to keep both hands on the steering wheel at the ten and two o? clock positions.
In some cars, steering can also be achieved through acceleration and deceleration, although this has basically been compensated for by the application of differential locks. If the engineers allow this form of steering, speeding up pulls the car to the outside edge of track and deceleration draws it to the inside. Learning how to control this feature minimizes the necessity to use the steering wheel.
There are two ways of taking turns: slowly and sharply. A slow turn makes use of the outside of the track and is the easier of the two techniques. Beginners ought to start with this method. Tight or sharp bends makes use of the inside of the track and are not easy manoeuvres involving combined use of the accelerator, the steering wheel and the brake.
Ease off the accelerator as you approach the curve until you are travelling at a speed that you can handle and then accelerate out of the curve from about halfway through it.
You should always think about your race after the event and make notes on your performance. Endeavor to have your race filmed if feasible so that you can study the lines that you took. Pay close attention to how you took the bends and your lines through them. Did you accelerate smoothly or did you accelerate in bursts?
It is better to concentrate on improving your own technique than to keep trying to beat others. If you concentrate on your own performance, you will improve it more quickly than if you just concentrate on beating your opposition. Keep in mind that when you are travelling at high speeds, small adjustments can make big differences, this also applies to small changes in your method.

Owner truck drivers have the same basic rights as any business owner, which means that they are permitted to deduct their operating costs from their earnings. The devil is in the detail. Every business operates on the same essential guidelines, but within that framework, every type of business is different.
A large proportion of non-business people do not understand how this works and to be honest, it does work in a different way in different countries. Here is a simple model: if you earn 400 and 100 is expenses and the tax rate is 25%, you will still pay tax: 400 earnings – 100 expenses = 300 profit x 25% tax rate = 75 tax.
Not as a lot of people think: 400 earnings x 25% tax rate = 100 tax – 100 expenses = zero tax.
With no expenses, the tax bill would have been: 400 earnings x 25% tax rate = 100 tax
Therefore, in this instance, you still need to pay for 75% of your expenses yourself. Obviously, the way to save money is to cut down on expenses. As we all know, this is easier said than done.
Since the truck is the largest single expense, you ought to begin there. Shopping around for the best deal is second nature when it comes to purchasing a vehicle, but it is even more important, when the vehicle is as expensive as a truck.
Regrettably, these are very hard times and many companies are going to the wall, but this does create opportunities to the owner-driver. There are tremendous deals on second-hand trucks, if you do your homework and have the truck thoroughly checked before you purchase it.
You can off-set the interest you pay on the finance against profits, but you should certainly go for the best deal you can here as well. Try getting a better deal by bundling several insurances into one or try placing all your insurance policies with one broker for a higher discount. Or even do away with the broker (middleman) and go straight to the insurer.
Maintenance is cheaper than repair and it is allowable. It is also cheaper to take a number of common parts with you than have to rely on expensive emergency call-outs.
Fuel is a huge cost, so can you get a fuel card on the routes you drive? If not, pay for everything with a credit card that offers rewards, but pay off the card every month without fail. Pay by direct debit to make sure. Use it only for business.
Taking a shower can be expensive, up to $10 a time, twice a day. Having your own towel, soap and shampoo can bring this price down, but some garages offer free showers, if you buy a minimum volume of fuel or oil.
Eating healthily is also expensive on the road. This could make it a good idea to mount a refrigerator in your cab and fill it up where food is cheap and handy. Cutting down on fry-ups and steaks and consuming more fruit would be healthier for most drivers in any case.

It appears that all new trucks and cars have an auto navigation system these days. However, there are several different varieties of auto navigation system, so if you want one as well, you have to know which set-up is best for you. There are stand alone, factory installed systems, units that are added to a car later, portable systems and hand-held units.
Some of these set-ups offer more functionality than others, but you have to be cagey of an auto navigation system that supplies functions that you will never use. These models are usually for the geeks. That does not mean that others can not use them, but they may be bewildering for the average driver.
If you are looking for a fairly inexpensive, yet versatile auto navigation system, then the hand-held or laptop models are probably for you. Hand-held auto navigation system can be used for other purposes of course, you can take it hiking, cycling or yachting. In this manner, an active person can get a great deal more value from a GPS sat nav system.
Some people just cannot bear to think that they are lost and vulnerable, especially if they have children with them. This is a rather irrational fear, but still a fear that people have nevertheless. Having a hand-held auto navigation system can remove this fear even if your car has broken down or run out of gasoline and you have to walk to the nearest garage.
Some hand-held auto navigation systems even have a function for making an emergency phone call to the closest garage, although this call probably goes to the garage that bid the most money for that prerogative a bit like the way that Google premium advertising slots work. Still, it will get you out of a tight spot, especially if you are stuck at night, which is the most frightening time of all.
Hand-held auto navigation systems are the cheapest of all the sat nav systems, so they would make superlative presents for motorists that you care about. Women in particular would be grateful for receiving one.
If you do want to get yourself or anyone else a hand-held auto navigation system, make sure that it has mapping facilities as some of them do not. Some of these units either speak or map, so be on the look out for that.
If you own a laptop or palm computer, you could get an even more beneficial deal on an auto navigation system, because you would only need to purchase a kit to convert the signals and software to run it. There are a number of packages like that on the market and the beauty of a laptop is that its screen is larger.
At the other extreme, quite a few mobile phone companies also can provide GPS auto navigation systems on their mobiles. Nokia, for example, has a very comprehensive range of maps for auto navigation systems.

You have surely seen auto navigation systems in your friends’ vehicles and you could be on the point of getting one yourself. It is definitely true that the auto navigation systems are impressive and the price of a set-up has fallen quite radically over the last few years. There are indeed many benefits to be derived from using an auto navigation system, which is also known as sat nav.
In this piece, we will take a look at some of the most important benefits of using a sat nav system.
Safety is paramount in whatever pursuit you undertake and safety has to be taken into account when driving too. It is difficult to know whether the world used to be a safer place or not, but it is a fact that these days more people are wary of getting embroiled with strangers than they were before.
Solitary drivers do not want to stop a stranger and admit that they are lost or even stranded. Maybe the stranger will send you into an ambush, set up hastily over a mobile phone as you drive off blissfully suspecting nothing. People have become very suspicious of strangers.
It goes without saying that solitary female drivers are the most distrustful of asking strangers for directions, but families with children are often very wary as well.
Having an auto navigation system solves this problem, because you will never get lost again, assuming that the sat nav unit is wired to your car battery or you have spare batteries for a hand-held device in the glove compartment.
Confidence in getting to your destination on time, if you leave early enough, is another major benefit. Traffic jams, road works, accidents and natural catastrophes will no longer be surprises to you and your sat nave system will be able to propose alternative routes in order to avoid the obstacle. This is a very big benefit.
You will no longer have to leave really early to make sure you miss the traffic or to make sure you get somewhere on time. Sat nav will give your ETA. This can save you a whole load of anxiety, especially if you have to be in certain places for work or the kids all the way through the day.
Not to have to juggle with maps is a boon as well. No more folding and refolding maps and struggling to remember sections of the route and then stopping to check and remember the next part of the route. Maps are always out of date too. New sections of motorway are always being added and small roads are sometimes closed for a new housing project. Paper maps just cannot keep up.
The last but not necessarily the least major advantage is the freedom an auto navigation system gives to you in your spare time. It opens up the countryside If you were always a little uneasy about going on a Sunday drive because you did not know the way or did not have a co-pilot to read the map, now you can just go with your auto navigation system.

Auto navigation systems have been improved a great deal since they were developed by the US military in the Sixties and Seventies. In fact, their development is a continuous process, as you can easily imagine. I remember in the Eighties when you got a fix on your position every twelve minutes or so.
This meant that ‘sat nav’ was great for shipping and yachts, but not much good for cars or other fast-moving vehicles. They were also rather expensive and quite large, not like the devices that cyclists can get in a wrist watch these days.
In spite of the fact that sat nav has advanced far enough for companies to be able to manufacture affordable auto navigation systems, there are still problems with them. But there is nothing new about that, it has become normal to start selling a product while it is still at some phase of improvement.
Look at MS Widows for an example; it is nearly thirty years old and still does not work seamlessly – it is still ‘under improvement’. The same is true of auto navigation systems.
And part of the problem is with the software running the device. Software is a very tricky thing, as Windows proves to its users every day. I am not of necessity criticizing Windows software, it is probably the best of its class, but then there is no real competition for it and that is a shame for all the usual reasons such as apathy, high-handedness and over-pricing, just look at Windows ‘Vista’. What an expensive pile of junk that was.
Needless to say, if Microsoft cannot get their software right, then auto navigation systems cannot either. Therefore, it is imperative to use an auto navigation system that either frequently updates itself automatically or allows the user to do it manually.
You have to have the latest bug-fixes to the software and the latest updates to the maps. Ideally, the system will update itself every day automatically, but you ought to do it manually at least before each extensive journey.
The signal is obviously very significant too. In order to get a fix on your position at least three satellites have to be able to ‘see’ your auto navigation system. If a fourth can corroborate the data, then so much the better.
This means that you may vanish ‘off the radar’, so to speak, if you are travelling under ground or in mostly built-up locations. Being seen by one or two satellites is not good enough, there is no triangulation.
It is rational to assume that if you have a clear view of the sky, then the three or four satellites should have a clear view of you, but it is not an infallible check. The best thing to have with you is still common sense. Do not just depend on your auto navigation system blindly. If you think it is giving you a false reading, it might be.
In this situation, the best thing to do is think about whether you or it is right and check it with a map if you have one. If all else fails, take a bit of advice often made by Windows support, turn the device off, count to ten and turn it back on again – in other words, reboot it.

Planning for a extravagant celebration is probably not a regular function for many people, however now and then many of us might have to schedule one. Birthday parties, wedding receptions or even retirement parties happen to be just some of the probable causes of a large party. Such a get together will require more than $ 10 for each person, and you also are not likely to get away with a pot luck.
On this occasion you’re going to need to go all the way. Most likely you’re going to need to plan for a proper dining. You actually get the selection of having a structured sit down meal or even a self serve buffet type meal. The first one is not always greater compared to the buffet style, however you have to pick which meal plan is practical for you personally.
Formal meals can produce a stunning memory for your friends and relatives. It is possible that they may become memories that will last a long time to come. Planning a formal meal is about as complex as a wedding reception, and also extreme planning is needed. You may want to hire some sort of event planner to help perform the job correctly devoid of wasting too much of your time.
When you can find the money for it, seek the services of an event planner. Special event advisors are not free, but because of their knowledge some of these planners could possibly save some costs. They may help you work out far better rates on the food, the actual venue, along with entertainment. These people might be qualified to supply you with a number of options for food and also venues for your event.
It is possible that you don’t want a celebration planner, however it is possible that you will find these individuals completely necessary. For those who have an active everyday life, you might not be able to handle such a big job on your own. An experienced function planner may help you take a look at the big picture while they care for the tiny details for you.
There can be numerous aspects that effect the meals served at the dinner party. A few things to consider are the subject of the party, your guests preferences as well as nationality. Some sort of diversified food selection will take each one of these factors into account and will be well rounded. Try to supply good balance involving healthy and also better tasting foods. When you manage the little factors, your event will certainly be described as a success.

A great deal of people are very concerned about privacy and security issues regarding GPS auto navigation systems. This does not only affect your in-car sat nav, but also hand-held devices such as your cell phone.
These days the majority of people can be tracked one way or another, whether it be by their cell phone, their GPS auto navigation system or an RFID tag that was sewn into a shirt they purchased last month at a supermarket.
Some people do not care about this state of affairs, some deplore it, but most people are not even conscious of it. It is hard to avoid being tracked. It is often stated that anyone walking around London carrying out his or her routine daily life these days, shows up on a closed circuit TV screen about 300 times every day.
However, there are benefits. If I was being mugged in London, I would hope that someone could see me on a screen and send the police or if I was hiking and I fell and broke my leg, I would be pleased that the rescue personnel could track me because I was using a GPS enabled cell phone.
Luckily, there are fairly strict laws in place in most Western countries limiting what can be done with the intelligence gathered from GPS auto navigation systems. The issue is that everyone knows that governments break the law and can change them to suit themselves whenever they like. No-one trusts politicians. Not even politicians.
This creates a huge dilemma for a lot of people and in particular parents of young children. Do you switch on the tracking functions of a GPS enabled mobile phone so that you or your child can be located if lost or injured or are you frightened that that information may be misused by a criminal of some sort – a kidnapper or a paedophile?
None of us really knows what our governments are up to or capable of, but we are being wound up by movies and books about the general invasion of our privacy and what clever people can do with the information that is floating around us in the air.
In reality, we have all given up a lot of the privacy that our grandparents took for granted, but the apparent dangers to society are greater these days, although 9/11 could have happened to the Empire State Building 80 years ago and anthrax could have been released on London or New York 100 years ago. People do not need high technology to carry out atrocities. Look at World War One or Rwanda.
GPS and auto navigation systems are good things. They help you remain aware of where your dear ones are and give you the peace of mind that if they get into trouble they will have a better chance of getting out of it.
The information gathered by these GPS auto navigation systems can be used in the wrong way, that is undeniable, but at the moment it probably is not. However, employing GPS auto navigation systems can help keep you and your family secure.

I don’t know whether you have ever used a handheld, indoor bug zapper, but I think that they are wonderful. I’m talking about the handheld sort that looks like a child?s plastic, toy tennis racquet. They come in two basic kinds. I rather the rechargeable bug zapper, for the reason that batteries end up costing more than the indoor bug zapper itself, although you could always buy rechargeable batteries, but then they are costly as well.
My wife and I like to spend time in the garden. We meet friends there, dine there and in general loaf about outdoors, as do most folks around here, when they are not working. Besides, it’s far cooler outside than indoors. A comfy chair, some snacks, a cool drink and a book or a friend and life does not get much better. In fact, it?s idyllic.
That is until about six or seven o’clock when the first wave of mosquitoes have judged that the sun’s rays have lost enough strength that they will not evaporate and they come out searching for blood. Some evenings are worse than others, of course. Usually, the mosquitoes are pretty tolerable, especially seeing as I have discovered the indoor bug zapper. (I don’t know why it is referred to as an ?indoor bug zapper?, it is just as effective outdoors as in).
It’s not that I like to kill things, but I find it difficult to have consideration for mosquitoes. Anyway, I do get a certain amount of pleasure from seeing and hearing mosquitoes and other bugs literally blow up with a flash and a zap as they come into connection with the electric and earth wires of the indoor bug zapper. These electric bug zappers can pack quite a charge, particularly if the batteries are new or the pack is fully charged.
The other day, I discovered a novel use for my handheld, indoor bug zapper. I’ll tell you how it came about. I was in the garden, as usual, and my bug zapper was close at hand as the first squadron of mosquitoes was due. I had my book in one hand and the bug zapper on my knees, when my wife asked me to go to the shop for her. No problem, so, I set off on the five minute walk.
I was half-way there when I noticed that I had the indoor bug zapper in my hand, but it was not worth taking it home and beginning the journey again. Anyhow, on my return journey, I had my small bag of provisions in one hand and the indoor bug zapper in the other, when a local tyrant of a dog came running out of a garden directly for me. This has happened often and, although he has never bitten me yet, it is somewhat scary. He stood there glaring at me with teeth bared and his ‘pack’ of miscellaneous neighborhood friends came out to surround me and join in.
I don’t really know what the best tactic is in this situation. I have tried holding my ground, but the intimidation just continues and I have tried to continue walking, but he gets terrifyingly close by at times. This time, I unexpectedly lashed out with the indoor bug zapper and just hit him on the nose. Well, I’m not sure if it hurt him, it did not seem to too much, but it gave him a very nasty shock in more ways than one, I can tell you! He leaped about four feet into the air as if he were on a pogo stick and then fled for all he was worth with all his pals behind him. It was very gratifying after six months of annoyance from this dog.
Anyway, I don’t take my indoor bug zapper everywhere with me, but I will in future, if any further local dogs bother me. I know it works a treat. I have seen that one since, but he stays far away from me and doesn’t utter a squeak. I think I would take my indoor bug zapper with me, if I were wandering in an strange part of town or the park nevertheless.
Have you ever heard of an indoor bug zapper? If not, or if you are interested in getting an indoor bug zapper, please click one of the hyperlinks to our website or blog.
